BTC Publishes Airport Security Wait Time Survey Results
RADNOR, PA., January 10, 2006-The Business Travel Coalition (BTC) today released results from a survey of North American business travelers regarding current perceptions of wait times at airport security lines. Airport security wait times remain excessive, from the perspective of frequent business travelers, and a burden on their productivity. Business travelers want the problem solved.
68% reported wait times in their home airports of more than 10 minutes and 29% reported wait times of more than 20 minutes.
53% reported experiencing a wait time of more than 20 minutes in the last two months at an airport other than their home airport.
64% responded that without a Registered Traveler program they believed that wait times at their home airport are likely to get worse.
BTC chairman, Kevin Mitchell stated, “Survey participants provided vivid commentary as well. A major theme was the time travelers must add to their schedules to arrive at airports early due to screening time inconsistencies. One participant commented, ‘Security at O’Hare is sometimes a breeze and other times ridiculous (30 to 60 minutes).’ You have to add this extra time to screening wait times for a true picture of security-imposed time obligations of business travelers, said Mitchell.”
The survey was conducted by the Business Travel Coalition during the 24-hour period beginning at 9pm (ET) January 8. BTC invited some 5,000 geographically diverse business travelers to participate in the poll. Some 644 business travelers, representing 13% of those invited, participated in the survey.
